Create Your Own Path

Mabuhay! My name is Arlene Basilio (you can call me Ar) and I’m a Filipina American entrepreneur, designer, activist, and Jane of all trades. I was born in Manila, the heart of the Philippines, and raised in Tysons, Virginia, United States, a booming community right outside the nation's capital — Washington D.C.

“If culture and heritage are the foundation The MAP’D Project ship was built on, then activism is our anchor.”

They say it’s important to remember where you come from because it’s a part of where you’re going. This couldn’t be any more relevant today. If culture and heritage are the foundation The MAP’D Project ship was built on, then activism is our anchor. And our flag? Well that depends on where our next adventure takes us. But for now, let’s sail back to the beginning and reflect on our Why — The reason we embarked on this journey in the first place.

“I wanted to inspire other people to create, design, and use their voice in an impactful way.”

More than 9 years ago, I began my career in Graphic Design. I was a free spirit seeking purpose, trying to make my mark through art and expression. A few years later, in 2015, I started working on a project deemed The MAP’D Project, which first served as a creative outlet, a channel for sharing my artwork, illustrations, crafts, and mixed media projects. But here’s the thing about creators — We never stop creating. So what began as a personal endeavor influenced by culture and activism later transcended into something much bigger than a single person. I wanted to inspire other people to create, design, and use their voice for good and in an impactful way.

“Ultimately, the brand was and continues to be anything creative.”

In 2016, I blended my two passions, creating and helping people, and extended my services in Graphic and UX/UI Design, hitchhiking (collaborating) with other like-minded individuals and organizations. In 2017, I moved to Los Angeles, California to grow my network and make an impact in multiple communities. In 2019, I then launched an online shop offering tangible expressions ranging from canvas prints to greeting cards, drinkware, and other lifestyle products inspired by my Filipino roots and causes that I’m passionate about. Ultimately, The MAP’D Project was and continues to be anything creative. We welcome you with open arms and encourage you to do the same.

The MAP’D Project aims to uplift and empower.”

MAP’D (pronounced “mapped”) is an acronym for Multimedia, Art, Peace and Design. With culture, activism, and self-care at its core, The MAP’D Project aims to uplift and empower. We are a platform for the nomadic, the wandering, purpose driven soul who has a unique story to tell. At The MAP’D Project, you’re the creator, the captain, and you can think of us as your crewmates. We’re here to guide and support you throughout your journey. So where shall we sail to next and how will you make your mark?
