I had a pleasure of working with Danny Le and Eric Tung on their watch brand, Variant Watch Co. I met these guys in college in a studio art class, let me tell you, they are pretty creative! I was excited to hear about the two of them starting a business together years after we graduate.
I was honored when they reached out to me for a logo, in fact, they were one of my very first clients as a freelancer. I was appreciative that they thought of me and respected my craft enough to make it a part of their brand.
They had the idea of using the "V" & the "A" in Variant to represent where we're from, Virginia. They left it up to me to figure out a way to make it stand out... Bold it maybe? Use a distinct typeface? I thought it was a pretty cool concept, I mean why not?! I sketched out a few ideas.. I flipped it sideways to look at it in a different angle (different variants, eh?) and there it was... The hour glass formed by sideways "VA".
It's dope thinking that we met a lot of pretty cool people in college. One of them being, Tim Tolentino, one of the photographers behind Variant Watch Co.'s product photos. He really brought out the aesthetic of the little details in the design of the watches!
As their brand continues to grow, they've reached out to us here and there for simple web graphics & infographics to amplify their watch even further to the public. Check them out at variantwatch.co
After working with Variant Watch Co. on their logo design, we purchased one of their watches to support their efforts. We put together an unboxing video as a token of our appreciation for being a part of their journey!
